SAFETY SURFACING
The key to adventure play is the appearance of risk, intending to thrill, while actually providing a safe environment for play. To this end Playquest UK offers a range of impact absorbing safety surfacing, all of which is tested to BS EN standards.
This page is designed to briefly introduce each type of surfacing that we offer, and further information on any and all of our range is available on request.
'Aeromat' impact absorbing matting is a popular choice for those who wish for their play areas to retain a natural look while adding a BS EN 1177 tested safety surface. Slip resistant in wet or dry conditions, the matting is virtually invisible once the grass has re-established itself. Damaged mats are easily replaced and the grass can be mowed with a regular lawnmower without fear of damage to the surface.
Woodfibre is one of our most popular types of surfacing. These particles of splinter-free, springy material come in a variety of colours, and are tested to BS EN 1177 standard. Though the surface may initially look loose, it is slip resistant from the moment it is laid and stable enough to easily allow wheelchair access. The impact absorbancy has been rated above rubber matting, making this our highest performance surfacing, plus the stability of the surface only improves with use as the fibers mesh to form a tighter matted material. This is suggested to occur after approximately five years in situ.
Very popular with local authorities, wet pour rubber surfacing is the last word in stability and durability. Made of rubber particles set in a springy cement, this surfacing is completely level and near impossible to lose traction on, even when soaking wet. Absorbant enough to take any fall impact specified in BS EN 1177, it is one of the more expensive surfaces we offer. However, it is also one of the most versatile, with many colours available and the possibility of customization with shapes and patterns inlaid to add a splash of colour.
Rubber mats are available on request, though they have been superceded by our 'Aeromat' surfacing. While not rated up to the same fall heights as our other surfacing options, it is still able to withstand the impacts of falls from all but our highest installations. It is the most easily repaired surface available, with each mat individually replacable. The mats are also durable and highly slip resistant, making them a viable option for the bottoms of slides or beneath swing sets.
